Microneedling
Why microneedling?
Microneedling has rapidly gained popularity in the past decade. This minimally-invasive procedure is one of the most requested skin treatments globally to treat hyperpigmentation, lines, wrinkles and visible pores.
Recent studies have proven that this technique is able to stimulate collagen production and target the melanocytes responsible for melanin over production and hyperpigmentation.
How does microneedling work?
Microneedling – true to its name – is a minimally-invasive procedure that creates small wounds in the skin with a micro-fine needling device (we use 0.25 to 1.0 millimeters in diameter).
Microneedling triggers the body’s wound healing process. By using fine needles to make miniscule, evenly-spaced micro-injuries, the treatment stimulates the healthy tissue surrounding the microneedling wounds to repair the damage. This triggers the production of collagen and elastin – rebuilding the skin’s dermal structure and helping to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and texture irregularities such as acne pitting or stretch marks.
The 3 Phases of wound healing:
When skin is injured – either accidentally, or through an intentional process such as microneedling – it triggers a cascade of healing stages to repair the injured tissue.
Phase 1: Inflammation
Piercing the skin triggers your immune system (consisting of white blood cells called neutrophils and macrophages) to disinfect the wounds, remove debris, increase blood flow and begin to create new tissue.
Phase 2: Proliferation
In this phase, the original tissue structure is reconstructed as macrophages recruit and stimulate fibroblasts to produce Collagen 3 (the extracellular matrix). Additionally, a new network of blood vessels develops.
Phase 3: Remodeling
The wound is replaced with new dermal tissues and blood vessels.
